Colglazier for Indiana Senate

About Matt

Matt Colglazier grew up on the south side of Indianapolis, the son of a public school teacher and a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). After relocating with his family to Texas, Matt graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, TX, and went on to attend Texas Christian University where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

After college Matt returned to Indiana in order to pursue graduate studies in English. He eventually worked as an Associate Instructor, teaching composition and writing classes at Indiana University. He finished his Masters of Fine Arts degree at Indiana in May of 2007. He now works as an Academic Advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. He spends his time working closely with students pursuing their own degrees, helping them make class decisions as well as guiding their career choices and monitoring their progress for graduation. As a top-rated Associate Instructor in the English Department, he has distinguished himself in both the classroom as well as in his own graduate program. He provided organizational leadership during the course of his work as a student and was nominated in 2006 as Outstanding First Year Composition Teacher.

In the fall of 2007, Matt married his college sweetheart, Lauren Whitney Oberhausen. Like Matt, Laurie grew up in Indianapolis and is employed at Indiana University. Her parents are also Hoosiers and now live in Fort Wayne. Laurie and Matt settled on his family’s 60 acre farm in Heltonville, INwhere they live today.

Matt has chosen to run for State Senate in the 44th district because he believes we can do better.

He believes that the problems of the past: education, innovation, employment and progress have all suffered and gone unsolved because of a lack of vision and shortage of leadership. As Indiana experiences “brain-drain,” watching its best and brightest graduates leave the state for better opportunities, as well as experienced workers losing their jobs or falling behind in updating their valuable skills, Matt believes it’s time to hand things over to a new generation of leaders. He is willing to dedicate himself to the rigorous work of protecting our legacy and insuring our future.

After nearly three decades of Republican leadership in the State Senate, Matt believes that a change is necessary. Hoosiers are now facing dire challenges – property taxes, education and healthcare. These issues cannot be solved by the same group of people who led us down this broken path.

Matt Colglazier promises a fresh kind of leadership, one dedicated to judgment tempered with humility and deep respect for all people living and working in the state of Indiana.

Although these values may seem synonymous with Hoosier, all you have to do is look at the closed down storefronts, the empty streets, and abandoned farms to realize that many of these values were traded in a long time ago for power and the status quo. When the real problems of real people go unsolved, as they have now for years, Matt will dedicate his life to the hard work of finding fresh solutions and forging new attitudes in Indianapolis for all Hoosier families.

As the grandson of a Salem City Councilman and a Washington County Clerk, Matt grew up in the tradition of community leadership and service. He is ready to give something back to the state he knows and loves. From Seymour to Heltonville to Spring Mill State Park, where his grandparents were engaged fifty years ago, Matt was instilled with a love of service, and the strength to tackle real problems, not simply serving the present for gain, but insuring a bright future for all Hoosiers who call these southern hills their home.
